Statewide College Enrollment Breaks Growth Trend 

Following three years of slowing growth in enrollment, the total number of students attending Connecticut’s public and private colleges edged down this fall, according to preliminary tallies compiled by the Office of Higher Education.

CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service to Lead Connecticut AmeriCorps Ceremony 

Wendy Spencer, chief executive officer of the Corporation for National and Community Service, will be in Connecticut Thursday (Nov. 7)  to swear in 350 new AmeriCorps members at the Trumbull Marriott. This year celebrates the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Corporation which administers all federal service programs. Spencer has led the agency since April 2012.

Gov. Malloy:  Improved State Financial Aid program Will Ensure Fairer Process and Help Students Better Prepare for College 

Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that his plan to improve Connecticut’s financial aid system is underway and being administered by the Office of Higher Education. The new Governor’s Scholarship Program establishes a single, consolidated need-based aid program for residents who are undergraduates at in-state public and private institutions of higher education, and replaces the state’s existing student aid programs - Connecticut Aid to Public College Students (CAPCS), Connecticut Independent College Student Grant (CICSG), the Capitol Scholarship, and Connecticut Aid to Charter Oak.

Five Students and Faculty from Connecticut Colleges to be Honored for Community Service 

Five Connecticut college students and staff will be honored at a ceremony tonight at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain for their work in helping others through community service.  Governor Dannel P. Malloy will participate as will William R. Dyson, chair of the Connecticut Commission on Community Service, and Jane A. Ciarleglio, Executive Director of the Office of Higher Education.

CT Colleges Named to President's Honor Roll for Community Service 

The Corporation for National and Community Service has named 14 Connecticut colleges and universities to the 2013 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, the highest federal distinction an institution of higher education can receive for its commitment to improving their communities through community service and service learning.

Swift Bipartisan Legislative Action Allows Students Displaced by School Closures to Get Certificates 

The State of Connecticut's Office of Higher Education last night received authorization from the Connecticut General Assembly to issue certificates of completion for students who completed their studies but did not receive a diploma from the former Butler Business School in Bridgeport, and the Sawyer Schools in Hamden and Hartford.  The three schools closed abruptly over the New Year's holiday.

Three Information Sessions Scheduled in Hartford, New Haven & Bridgeport for Displaced Butler/Sawyer School Students 

The Office of Higher Education will conduct three Information Sessions for students impacted by the sudden closures of the Butler Business School in Bridgeport, and the Sawyer Schools in Hartford and Hamden.

Student Transcripts Available for Butler/Sawyer School Students - Information Sessions Planned 

Former Butler Business and Sawyer School students are now able to obtain copies of their student transcripts from the State of Connecticut’s Office of Higher Education.  To obtain copies, students must complete and mail a one-page form to the Office of Higher Education. Only mailed copies can be accepted as original signatures are required.

Transcript Recovery Underway for Butler and Sawyer School Students

The State of Connecticut's Office of Higher Education is working with former Butler and Sawyer School officials to secure all student records from the school facilities which closed abruptly last weekend.  The Office of Higher Education anticipates recovering most student records by the close of business on Monday, January 7.
