Connecticut Celebrates AmeriCorps 20!

AmeriCorps 20 Years

More than 350 people came together on November 7 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Corporation for National and Community Service. Headlining the event was Wendy Spencer, CEO of the Corporation, who gave the keynote address and swore-in Connecticut’s latest AmeriCorps members.

What a great day!!," commented Sheila Greenstein, AmeriCorps Program Director, AARP Experience Corps. "I received overwhelmingly positive feedback from my members who attended the launch.  They enjoyed everything:  speakers, food, setting - but especially spending time with the other AC members.  They talked about feeling energized by the dedication and quality of the young members. I agree completely.”

Bill Dyson, chair of the Connecticut Commission on Community Service, welcomed all to the day-long event held at the Trumbull Marriott.  A rousing talk by motivational speaker Dr. Michael Fowlin energized attendees before they headed to a variety of workshops on communications, team-building and fostering inclusive environments. Jacqueline Johnson, Executive Director of the Connecticut Commission, closed the day by congratulating new AmeriCorps members as they start their service in programs across Connecticut.
